The Clifton, Clifton Village, Bristol
Here at The Clifton, as in our pubs in Wales, we serve good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings.
Our pub is a thriving local watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for many years. We still do exactly that, with great ales, interesting wines, homemade seasonal drinks and delicious bar snacks.
Alongside the bar, we offer a daily changing, seasonal menu in our dining rooms. Head Chef Cory was Tom’s Sous Chef at the Hare & Hounds, and offers his own style here at The Clifton. We’ve had a custom made Parrilla Grill built, so Cory is cooking over fire, with big focus on sharing and feasting dishes. We aim to build strong relationships with artisan suppliers in the surrounding Bristol area, as well as using produce from our own smallholding. As with our other pubs, seasonality is at the heart of what we do, and the focus is on short supply chains. The food ethos echos ‘Nose to Tail’ British cooking, with the influence of the wood fire.
Everything is made from scratch in our kitchen, from our own sourdough bread and cultured butter, to fresh pasta. This is not pretentious fine dining; it’s just about good food, whether you’ve been for a long walk with your dog or have got something to celebrate. We’re very excited to bring our regional cooking to Bristol!
We are proud to say that we earned both a Bib Gourmand from Michelin and landed ourselves 65th on the Top 100 Gastropubs list by Estrella, all within 7 months of opening the doors!
William Sitwell reviewed The Clifton, Bristol for The Times: ‘Food that appeals to one’s primal instincts’ This was a succession of seemingly simple, hearty dishes, but there are real brains and thought in the kitchen. 4 Stars.
“When it comes to modern British cooking bingo, The Clifton has a full house,” says Tom Parker Bowles in The Mail on Sunday. 4 Stars.
