December 2020 Update

We can’t quite believe we’re facing a December as a pub not selling alcohol. But we’re trying to make the best of the situation. We’ve picked up the keys for our new Bakery on North Road in Cowbridge; we’ll be getting builders in as soon as possible and aim to open in early February. In the meantime, from Wednesday 9th December, the Hare & Hounds pub will become the Hare & Hounds Bakery.

We’ll be open from Wednesday to Sunday 8:30am to 2:30pm, serving our delicious homemade breads and pastries to take away, as well as breakfast, brunch and lunch to eat in. We won’t be taking bookings, so just come along, we can’t wait to welcome you all and trial out all of our ideas for the menu.

We’ll also still be doing our takeaway Cook at Home Beef Wellingtons…call or email us with three days notice and we can prepare you one for your celebration at home.

Another way that you can support us at this difficult time is by buying gift vouchers to come and redeem with us when we’re open properly again, or booking tables for January onwards, both of which you can do here. We can’t thank everyone enough for their support this year, here’s hoping that with your continued support we can make it out the other side!

The Hare & Hounds Aberthin

Here at the Hare & Hounds we serve good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings.

First and foremost, our pub is a thriving local watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for over 300 years. We still do exactly that, with great ales, interesting wines and homemade seasonal drinks.

Alongside the bar, we offer a small, daily changing, seasonal menu in our dining room. We use the very best produce that the Vale of Glamorgan has to offer. We have some of the most productive soil in the UK, which gives us meat, game and vegetables of the highest quality. The produce available to us from the best Vale producers, our own kitchen garden and our smallholding, dictate what is on the menu from day to day.

Everything is made from scratch in our kitchen, from our own sourdough bread and cultured butter, to fresh pasta. This is not pretentious fine dining; its just about good food, whether you’ve been for a long walk with your dog or have got something to celebrate. It is a type of regional Welsh cooking.

We are the proud holder of a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, and we’re featured in The Good Food Guide, the Good Pub Guide and the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide.

“The sourcing of ingredients and the integrity of food.”

Food

We are serving a slightly different menu at the moment, of small plates and sharing dishes. Locality and seasonality is still key, and the menu reflects the best of the days local produce as it always has.
